Lesbian minister shares her journey

Freedom 2 b[e] will welcome respected church leader Reverend Nicole Fleming to its October chapter meeting, where she will share her journey as an out lesbian in the Uniting Church.

Fleming served as a youth worker in Dubbo for 11 years before moving into the Uniting Church NSW Synod Youth Unit where she was ordained. Through that process, she was open about her same-sex relationship.

Fleming, 36, was inducted as minister of Balmain Uniting Church in July, in a first for a major Christian denomination in Australia.

Fleming is also studying a Masters of Arts in Public and Contextual Theology. She is building a website through the Uniting Church for young people coming out in a Christian context, which she will also speak about at the meeting.

Freedom 2 b[e]’s meeting will be held at the ACON building, 414 Elizabeth St, Surry Hills on Friday, October 7, from 7pm. All are welcome to attend.
