NSW Governor at Aurora dinner

The NSW Governor, Professor Marie Bashir, and the former Lord Mayor of Sydney, Sir Nicholas Shehadie, will be special guests at this year’s Aurora dinner to be held at the Sydney Town Hall on Saturday, June 25.

“I am pleased to confirm that Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, Governor of NSW, and Sir Nicholas Shehadie, will be in attendance,” Aurora chair David Moutou said.

“For just the second occasion in Aurora’s history, the Aurora dinner will be a vice-regal event [and we] are very excited that the 2011 Aurora dinner will be held at the newly refurbished Sydney Town Hall.”

The dinner’s theme will be Gay Paris.

“Each year, Aurora holds the dinner in late June to mark International Stonewall Day,” Moutou said.

“On the evening of the 2011 Aurora Dinner, 500,000 will take to the streets of Paris for Gay Pride. We will toast them in solidarity from Sydney Town Hall.”

Entertainment on the night will take its inspiration from Parisian high society and Bohemian Paris at the turn of the 20th century. The menu will keep with the Parisian theme, accompanied by fine Australian wines with their origins in Bordeaux and Burgundy.

Tickets for the dinner are $225.

“We acknowledge that tickets are not cheap,” Aurora events director Anthony Hillis said, “but we can confidently say that they offer great value for money. The gala is a once-a-year indulgence, which our guests continue to tell us is a fabulous social night, not to be missed.”
