Taylor Square to be home to GLBT art

Three artworks produced by, or addressing the gay and lesbian character of the Taylor Square area will be commissioned by the City of Sydney for display at the men’s toilet on Taylor Square.
The move follows a request from gay councillor Shayne Mallard that the Taylor Square Plinth project make specific reference to the area’s GLBT community and history.
The three works, which will each have a six-month showing space, will be timed to coincide with such events as the 2010 Mardi Gras and the 40th anniversary celebrations for CAMP NSW next year.
Local arts organisations, including the National Art School and the College of Fine Arts have been invited to submit proposals for pieces.
