Tempting you out
The cool weather has certainly arrived. When it’s cold outside it’s often hard to get away from your bed and doona and participate in anything outside home.
Northern Rivers’ GLBT community will do its best this month to tempt you out with several planned activities.
ACON’s Lesbian Health Project aims to empower young same-sex attracted women by offering a free two-day workshop, Equip Yourself.
We know discrimination and the lack of visible role models for young same-sex attracted women can isolate and negatively impact on health and wellbeing. This workshop is about recognising the unique health needs of young lesbians or same-sex attracted women such as dealing with homophobia, understanding sexual health and learning about issues related to coming out. Equip yourself with the tools to reach your potential and support your peers. For details, call Amber.
Building Healthy Relationships is a well-designed program on offer for same-sex attracted women of any age. This eight-week group begins in July and will be held on Tuesday evenings at ACON in Lismore. It will be a closed group, suitable for both couples and singles. This group has proved popular in the past so register ASAP with Amber.
Are you interested in health groups and activities as diverse as a Nutrition Program, Smoking Cessation or a Cancer Support Group? Call ACON and leave your details. If there are enough people interested we will try to put all of you and the experts together.
Time Warp, a local GLBT social activity, is held the last Friday of the month, 7-10pm, at the Fruit Bowl. Time Warp has interesting themes for its next two regular events. June’s theme is -˜country & western’ and will be held on Friday 26 June.
On Friday 31 July the theme is a G & L party. So dress up as a lolly or gladiator (for example) and socialise with other G & L characters. Entry is by gold coin donation. For details call 0421 701 662.
