Tweet of straight student asking gay best friend to school prom goes viral

WITH LGBTI high school students often facing challenges when it comes to being able to take their partners to their school formal (or prom), one straight student came up with a heartwarming way to make his gay best friend feel included at their Las Vegas school’s night of nights.

When Jacob Lescenski asked his friend Anthony Martinez to be his prom date, it was done so through a banner (pictured above) held up by fellow school mates to the surprise of Martinez, who took to Twitter to share the moment.

The tweet has since gone viral.

Speaking to the media, Martinez described the moment he saw the sign as he left the lunch room where he was selling prom tickets: “I saw this giant poster and assumed it was for another person—until I read ‘you’re hella gay’.”

Martinez also tweeted on the support he received: “Everyone is so amazing… Couldn’t be more thankful a friend like Jacob ❤️”

Lescenski came up with the idea to ask Martinez to the prom after he saw him tweet about wanting a date.
