A jam-packed New Year’s

By the time you are reading this edition of SSO another World AIDS Day has passed.
A hearty call of appreciation must go to the many volunteers across Northern Rivers and the whole state who made these fundraising and awareness-raising activities possible.
Xmas is around the corner and then my favourite celebration of the year: New Year’s.
And this New Year’s in Northern Rivers is shaping up to be a jam-packed one.
Queer Fruits Film Festival is making its debut in our area on December 29 and 30. More information can be found at www.queerfruitsfilmfestival.org
One of the most spectacular GLBT events in Australia is the New Year’s Eve Tropical Fruits party. This year’s party is titled Elements. Interpret that as you may and rock up — maybe as a water nymph, a dragon or a cyclone. Elements will be held at the Lismore Showground from 8pm–6am.
For those who recover quickly or maybe enjoy a more laidback daytime experience, the pool party is on New Year’s Day from 10am-4pm. Still need more celebrating? Then get back to the showground for the recovery party, 4pm–1.30am. More about these parties at www.tropicalfruits.org.au
For these parties to be a success, over 200 volunteers offer their time. So if you see a happy hard worker say g’day or give them a big smile.
After New Year’s, the popular Northern Rivers Rollers Girls social skates will continue from January 7. If you’re interested, contact Amber at [email protected]
ACON Northern Rivers office will be closed from 5pm Thursday December 24 until 9am Monday January 4.
