Bearing it all

Bearing it all

The social event swings into action. It is not a drink-till-you-drop commencing at midnight, or tingle-all-over with hot twinks on the dance floor.
Rather three people set out a game for attendees to participate in when they roll up over the next two hours.
This will be a real mixed bag. No RSVP required or received; just a ‘casual get-together in one of Sydney’s amazing parks’ You know the sort of thing — produce a glamorous e-vite, create a Google map where A marks the G-meeting spot, and hit ‘Send to all’ with a covering note in the e-letter, “Bring your friends”.  It will have to be high on camp, picnics always are.
The phone calls begin. “We are at Dickens, where is the picnic?” “I’m just leaving home. Is anyone there yet?” “Paul said he was coming. Call him to see if he could bring…” It is hard when a map is unreadable and the attendees are not sure what to look for, who to look for or what time is socially acceptable to arrive.
Let’s begin without them. Put out drinks. The beers are warm in 30 seconds. “Try my wine?” Yuk, give that to Joe — he likes lolly water.
Who’s for a game? Not me, I need another drink to get wound up. I’ve done my exercise for the day — too hard! A few others start playing.
The phone rings in the middle of an important interlude. It is Ted. We work out what he has to do to get to where the action is, and camp arrives.
French café or picnic? Roll out the checked tablecloth and napkins. Crystal flutes for champagne, glasses for wine. Impressed? Very, but not with the picnic flair — with Ted. He has brought an entourage. Ted’s active lifestyle allows more time for play as well as work.
Why? Because he rises earlier and sleeps better, he is more focused because of the increased blood flow to his brain which results in clarity of thought. Regular work breaks which incorporate stretches and body weight exercise such as push-ups or yoga positions maintain momentum during the day.
Think this is good? Imagine what increased blood flow does to your sex life. My girlfriends tell me the reason they can multi-task and I can’t is because there is no prick doing the thinking for them.
Science supports active lifestyles, whether on the sports fields or between the sheets. There are of course member clubs who develop all simultaneously — in the activities they undertake outdoors. Yes, membership has its benefits.
