Doritos goes gay

Binge eating just got a lot fabulous with two gay themed advertisements for Doritos making waves online.

The ads, which were rumoured to be played on American television during the Super Bowl, feature (presumably) straight men going to unusual lengths for a delicious corn chip.

In one of the clips (below), a man suspiciously checks out the guy sitting next to him in the sauna – until it is revealed that he actually has his eyes on the packet of Doritos resting between his new friend’s legs.

The other clip (below) finds a gay couple chilling by the pool, while their straight neighbour oogles their chips – to the obvious annoyance of his girlfriend.

It would have been interesting to see the response to the ads if they had screened during prime time but GLAAD has confirmed that they will not air and could even be pulled from YouTube.

According to Doritos, the ads were submitted (along with 5600 others) for the company’s ‘Crash the Super Bowl’ contest.

They were not selected by the judges and not put on YouTube by the company.

Do you think Doritos should have aired the commercials or are you relieved – given their reliance on gay stereotypes – that the advertisements will not be shown?

  1. Not offensive at all. Quite amusing in my opinion. Since when did stop laughing at ourselves and our straight neighbors.

  2. Oh please … I have seen both of them and did not find them offensive at all … I found them both funny but can.

If the company pulls these (no pun intended) from YouTube that they would need to take a long look at themselves because what does that then say about the company.
