Lautner set for Gus Van Sant film

Twilight star Taylor Lautner is reportedly producing and starring in a new indie film directed by Gus van Sant.

Lautner is said to be finalising a deal to team with van Sant (Milk, My Own Private Idaho) on a small-budget film based on a non-fiction article in The New Yorker magazine that Lautner has optioned, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Details are still emerging about the project, but sources say an announcement is expected later this week revealing who is write the script for the van Sant-helmed film. The aim is to shoot the film in the first quarter of next year,” they report.

Lautner had been photographed having dinner with van Sant and Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black earlier in the year, which fueled speculation of a cinematic collaboration.

“The new project would almost certainly take Lautner’s career in a new direction. He is said to be determined to work only with top directors and writers from now on as he strives to define himself as an actor,” The Hollywood Reporter added.

Last month, GQ Australia was forced to apologise for an interview with Lautner, in which the US actor was asked whether Black or van Sant had “made a pass” at him at the dinner meeting.
