Modern Family dominates Emmy noms

Gay-friendly sitcom Modern Family has become the most-nominated sitcom at this year’s Emmy Awards, with a whopping 17 chances to snag a gong.

In an amazing accomplishment, all six of the show’s lead adult actors were nominated, including Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet, who play the show’s gay couple.

Other leading shows included Mad Men with 19 nominations, Boardwalk Empire with 18, Saturday Night Live with 16 and 13 for acclaimed HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones. 30 Rock also scored 13 nominations.

The camp adaptation of classic novel Mildred Pierce, starring Kate Winslet, dominated the mini-series category with 21 nominations. The 1945 film version earned Joan Crawford her first and only Oscar – a good sign for Winslet.

The 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be held in September this year. Glee star Jane Lynch will be hosting the event.
