Gay child receives overwhelming support on viral Humans of New York post

POPULAR Facebook page Humans of New York is known for its heart warming human stories and photography, but no one could have ever predicted the outpour of emotion a recent post over the weekend would have received.

The post in question featured a photo young boy visibly upset and red-eyed, along with the caption: “I’m homosexual and I’m afraid about what my future will be and that people won’t like me.”

With over 57,000 likes and just as many comments, two of those comments stood out. One was from comedian and talk show host Ellen Degeneres, who wrote: “Not only will people like you, they’ll love you. I just heard of you and I love you already.”

Another was by by US Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton who commented from her official account: “Prediction from a grown-up: Your future is going to be amazing. You will surprise yourself with what you’re capable of and the incredible things you go on to do. Find the people who love and believe in you – there will be lots of them. –H.”

The post was shared on Independence Day on July 4, the national holiday for the US. It also follows the US Supreme Court’s recent decision to legalise same-sex marriage in all states of the country.
