R.E.M’s swan-song announced

R.E.M will release their first definitive greatest hits album, due November 18.

The band set the net a blaze recently when they announced that they would be ending their 31 year recording career and going their separate ways.

Fans have cried out, however as singer Michael Stipe said “the skill in attending a party is knowing when it’s time to leave. We built something extraordinary together. We did this thing. And now we’re going to walk away from it.”

The imminent final album, titled “Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage. 1982-2011”, will be distributed by Warner Music, it will include songs from their entire back catalogue including hits from when the band was signed with IRS label.

The band said three final new songs will make it onto the album, giving fans 40 tracks to remember the enduring band by.

The new tracks are “A Month of Saturdays,” “Hallelujah” and “We All Go Back To Where We Belong,” which will be released as a single on October 19. The songs were written and recorded in the band’s hometown, Athens, Georgia, with producer Jacknife Lee.

After 15 studio albums and 85 million albums sold worldwide, these pioneers have certainly left their musical mark on the world. The 40-song retrospective is available for pre-order at Amazon now.
