Dolly’s 9-5

Dolly’s 9-5

Hello and welcome to my little corner,

It’s that time of year again when we all have a little flutter on the Melbourne Cup. I remember being at Wrestpoint in Hobart one year and everyone was all dressed in race gear just to watch in on the telly. I was particularly fascinated with one woman’s fascinator, which I’m sure she made out of things from the mini bar; a hat and a snack – not a bad idea.

You have a million and one venues to choose from and about the same chances of winning of course. But it’s not all about winning is it? However, if you do then why don’t you take me somewhere nice for a little R&R? Tahiti looks nice. Mind you, Rhonda’s getting all the action in Bali so maybe both.

Sydney Gay Games Reunion

Sunday, November 4

Everyone loves a reunion, don’t they? Well the 10 year Sydney Gay Games reunion will be nothing but love and it’s happening this Sunday at Upstairs Beresford.  They want all the participating athletes, cast members and crew from the opening and closing ceremonies and all those fantastic volunteers, supporters and friends to come along. It’s time to wear your old uniform and costumes, bring along your medal and enjoy what will be a lovely afternoon of memories, speeches and performances.

Of course, it will be a bit of a reunion for those who attended the now legendary Black Party at the Dome too. I’m sure some of you would’ve deserved a medal for your performance at that party. Gold: Most time spent on your knees. Silver: Best performance in the dark. Bronze: Synchronised groping.

Melbourne Cup day

Tuesday, November 6

Red Bennies is now notorious for being one of the best burlesque and cabaret venues in Australia. It’s going all out Cup Day with a chance for you to put on your race wear and enjoy some of the hottest entertainment around. The legendary Rocco D’Amore and I will be hosting an afternoon of glitz and glamour and joining us are One trick Pony, Slap ‘n’ Tickle, The Wild Boys and U.S. Tank The Muppet.

It’s all about the glamour of course so come along and play the roulette tables and say “Hello” to one of the Chippendale waiters.

I’ll be swanning around with a glass of Piper in my hand and trying to have as many costume changes as Pippa Middleton at a book launch. Come along and watch the race that stops the nation in style.

Feast Festival – Adelaide

November 10-15

Feast is only a matter of days away and you can really feel the excitement build. I love it when Adelaide has an event like this because it really comes alive. There’s so much queer entertainment planned over the 15 days that you really are spoilt for choice.

Well here’s even more to wet your whistles: Miss Coco Peru, the US drag legend who works all over the world, there’s no lip-synching for this drag diva as she uses her own voice – and what a divine voice it is too. She talks about her strange beginnings in her very dysfunctional family (join the club there, sister).

Also, soul singer Erin James, songwriters Marie Wilson and Catherine Britt, and London-born jazz singer Ruth Rogers-Wright to name but a few. Get some Feast on your plate in November.
