Gay Games takes advocacy position
Gay Games organisers will next year extend the event’s goodwill beyond the city limits of Cologne, with the introduction of a scholarship scheme to assist the gay and lesbian communities of Eastern Europe.
Funds provided by Absolut Vodka and Blu Publishing will allow a number of GLBT athletes and artists from Eastern Europe to attend the Games, something which organisers are hoping could help spread acceptance.
Gays and lesbians from Eastern Europe are often targeted by homophobic hate groups, Cologne Games CEO Annette Wachter said.
We hope that by bringing Eastern European participants to the Gay Games, we can help strengthen self-esteem and inspire them so they can achieve progress in their own countries.

Support the Star Observer… while you still can
LGBTQIA+ media is under threat. Queer content is censored by tech conglomerates who amplify bigotry and push out AI slop — so we receive less financial support than ever.
When our community is muzzled and intolerance intensifies, we need queer media more than ever. Your donation means we can continue paying queer journalists to write queer news.
Don’t rely on the straight lies of big tech – support Star Observer instead and donate now.
