GLMA fights hard

Seven members of Gay and Lesbian Marital Arts Club’s (GLMA) entered  the International Sports Karate Association (ISKA) NSW Open Championships at the State Sport Centre at the weekend.
GLMA member Anton Davis took out top spot in both the beginners/intermediate weapons and 20-30 year-old male forms. Jez Martin won first place in the advanced 30-40 year-old male point sparring and Kym Fizzell came first in the open women’s 30-40 year-old point sparring.
“The contact in the sparring can be a little heavy-handed but this makes participants very one the ball and much more prepared for a real life situation,” GLMA founder Penny Gulliver said.
“The range of opponents is very large and therefore gives GLMA students a lot of scope to test their skills.”
GLMA is starting a kickboxing workshop on Thursday, March 25, and the eight-week intensive self-defence course starts on Tuesday, March 23.

info: All kickboxing and self-defence classes are held at Erskineville Town Hall, 104 Erskineville Rd, Erskineville. For more on times and bookings, call 0411 808 451 or visit www.glmartialarts.com.au
