Jake Diefenbach – Missing Person

Queer cabaret-pop wunderkind Jake Diefenbach returns in full band mode with Missing Person, his new album. It’s a concise yet dramatic collection, with cascading piano melodies and Diefenbach’s impassioned vocals the constants throughout. At times, as on opener The Devil You Know, the mood is unsettlingly gothic, but on other tracks, such as the intimate lullaby Raw, Diefenbach marries his dark, brooding lyrics to undeniably beautiful music. And on My Favourite Sins, he even lets his cutting sense of humour shine through, taking aim at brainless wannabes who use ‘gay’ as an insult.
