Leather Pride goes ahead

Melbourne Leather Pride (MLP) organisers have announced the event will go ahead next month.

It was postponed last year to avoid clashing with the Peel Street Pride March Fair and give the festival time to regroup.

MLP festival director Alex Schoeffel said the festival would develop a new model of organisation including appointing a ‘formative’ board.

The new board will consist of Schoeffel, Dean Beck, Lochlan Maclachlan, Peter Leslie, Lynda Horn, David Hunt, Bryan Andy, Jo Latham, Damian Carey, Lex Coleman and returning officer Crusader Hillis.

The festival was previously run privately by Schoeffel, but will now involve stakeholders and will have a charter and a constitution.

The festival is set to open with the Mr Leather Australia/New Zealand contest on April 8 and 9, and will continue until April 26.

Schoeffel said the festival is still accepting event submissions. Anyone who wants to hold an exhibition, reading, seminar, performance, party, social event or workshop should contact [email protected]
