Miley Cyrus’s latest album has taken a dramatic tumble down the US charts, just one week after delivering her first number one in more than a decade.

Bass Persuades fell from number one to number 157 on the Billboard 200, the biggest second-week drop for an album that debuted at the top of the charts.

The record opened with 61,000 unit sales, giving Cyrus her first chart topping album since Bangerz in 2013. That celebration, however, was short lived with the singer suffering a much tougher second week.

Miley Cyrus album suffers dramatic drop

Bon Jovi and Travis Scott have suffered bigger falls after reaching number one, but their albums had already been on the chart for several weeks.

However cyrus’s record breaking drop is more specific: Bass Persuades has recorded the biggest drop in Billboard 200 history for an album moving directly from a number one debut into its second week.

The album hasn’t had rave reviews, with Rolling Stone rating it 3.5 stars, noting the lack of  “bangers” on the new release.

“Massive bangers don’t seem to motivate her any more — at least, not as much as the love she goes home to at the end of the night,” they wrote.

The news is another chapter in a career that has involved much more than chart positions for the iconic singer.

Cyrus faced early speculation about her sexuality as she rejected anti-gay stigma back in 2013, when she pushed back against public commentary on her personal life.

“Being a lesbian is a compliment more than what else they call me,” she said at the time.

She later came out publicly as pansexual, before identifying as bisexual in the years following.

Musically, Bass Persuades marks another change of pace. After dropping her famous surname recently, the album was released under her first name only, Miley, the ten-track album leans into dance music, with its title track arriving ahead of the full release last month.

Billboard reported that the single debuted at number 35 on the Hot 100, while the album followed 2025’s Something Beautiful.

That earlier record also struggled to maintain its opening momentum, entering the Billboard 200 at number four before dropping to number 102 the following week.
