Big Gay Day on again

Big Gay Day on again

Brisbane’s Big Gay Day will return in 2009, organisers have announced.

The Sunshine State’s biggest gay and lesbian party is on Sunday, 15 March.

Now is its ninth year, Big Gay Day is a charity fundraiser which in the past eight years has raised over $115,000 for community organisations. Last year’s event raised $35,000 for the Gay and Lesbian Welfare Association and PFLAG.

The event is staged in Fortitude Valley. The street next to the Wickham Hotel is blocked off and a large stage is placed front and centre in the street. The day is made up of a mixture of DJs, live acts, drag and roving performers.

The successful changes to the layout at last year’s event are here to stay after the thousands of people attending Big Gay Day ’08 were able to move around without waiting in long queues for drinks or toilets. Additional seating and chill out areas will also be added.

Organisers are yet to release the names of this year’s performers, but it is understood they are in negotiations with one of the biggest stars on the Oz music scene.

No Big Gay Day would be complete without the biggest drag spectacular of the year -” Mega Drag. The Wickham is currently looking for drag queens to be a part of Mega Drag. All interested drag queens are invited to email the Wickham via [email protected]
