Bouncing back for even more

While the Asia Pacific’s leaders are locked away boring each other with political speak next month, Sydney’s fetish-curious and lovers will be sweating away on the dancefloor.

Rubber Ball 2007 promises to be the best yet, with organiser Lynne O’Brien already run ragged with ticket demand.

“It started because I saw a need for a really full-on dress-up event – for the hardcore fetishists as well as people who want to explore fetish,” O’Brien said.

“The response was fantastic, with people from all over Australia and internationally coming to celebrate with us.”

The event was launched in 2005 and O’Brien said it had fast become a permanent fixture on Sydney’s party calendar.

“It is a safe and fun environment to explore and celebrate fetish,” O’Brien said.

“It may be that you have a penchant for boys or girls in uniform, feathers, leather or rubber, you may love the feel of leather or latex on your skin – whatever your fetish, it can be celebrated openly at this event.”

But be warned, there is a strict dress code.

“Be prepared for inspection by our gorgeous and friendly door staff,” O’Brien said.

“The dress code will be enforced. Rubber, leather, kink, drag, PVC, uniform, fantasy, fetish, body art, burlesque, medical, ceremonial – you must dress to impress.

“And under-dressed – unless you’re undressed – will not get you entry.”

O’Brien said the organisers would go out of their way to ensure everyone – from the Rubber Ball virgin to the seasoned fetish lover – would feel comfortable.

“This party is funky and friendly. The crowd is a real party crowd, and the costumes are way out and wonderful,” she said.

“But importantly everyone goes to have a party, to celebrate KINK – whatever that means to each individual.”

Change rooms and a cloak room will be available for those who don’t feel comfortable just turning up in their outfits. This year’s proceeds will go to Sydney Leather Pride.

And as for the entertainment? DJs Beaker, Mandy Rollins and Feisty are all confirmed.

Rubber Ball 2007 on Saturday 8 September at Manning Bar, Sydney Uni, from 9pm. Tickets are $55 at www.rubberball.net.au.
