Dykes on Bikes will celebrate their champagne year at the head of the parade on Saturday with a full capacity group of revving sheilas to herald this year’s Mardi Gras.

Twenty-one years ago Dykes on Bikes took up their rightful spot at the head of the parade.

There are no special plans to commemorate the milestone but there’s sure to be some partying afterwards, said DOB president Neddy Mesure.

The girls are going to embrace the Nations United theme with some flags but other than that we haven’t got any special plans.

We’re limited to 200 bikes this year and we’ll probably have around that number. We’ve got the usual people coming in from interstate and things like that, she said, adding that anyone looking to party with the girls was welcome to get ready before, or attend the after-party, at the Hampshire Hotel in Camperdown.
