DJ Beaker gives us her favourite five songs at the moment. Catch her playing at Fag Tag at The Eastern this Sunday 17 July, Dirty Donkey at Rogues on Friday 29 July, and Rubberball at Manning Bar on Saturday 13 August.

SALTY (Meat Katie Remix)

Dylan Ryhmes

This track rocks! I loved it the moment I heard it and can’t get enough of it. Salty has a huge powerful sound with its nice tight kicks and snares melded together with a gutsy bluesy male vocal over the top. With a hypnotic bass line and big beats this track promises to get the room jumping.

SHAKE ‘EM DOWN (Original/ Dylan Ryhmes Remix)

Soul Of Man

This is one of those tracks that grabs you immediately and makes you wanna sit up and take notice. Although these mixes are very different from each other, in each you’ll find the funky vocal line still present but the latter mix takes the listener to a dark and sinister place. This is one of those tracks that stays in your head long after the needle has left the record thanks to its incredibly contagious chorus.

Hernan Cattaneo & Dean Coleman

With Behind The Music Hernan has unleashed a tribal house groover with driving progressive beats interspersed with haunting keyboard undertones. This track also features on the Renaissance: The Masters Series CD mixed by Hernan himself.

The Fort Knox Five

This particular track uses a variety of cool vocal samples throughout, leading to its 16-bar breakdown where the rhythm track is peeled away leaving the vocals which build into a nice crescendo before the drums kick back in and push the song to its final stages.

SHIVER (Plump DJs Mix)

Lee Coombs

No top five would be complete without a shout out to one of my favourite break-beating duos. The prolific Plump DJs have done it again with their mix of this Lee Coombs track. Even if you’re not a huge breaks fan, this little gem will have you at least twisting in your seat courtesy of a killer bass hook and soaring female vocals.
