Magda announced for Aurora Ball
Australian comedian and television star Magda Szubanski has been announced as the keynote speaker for the Aurora Group’s Annual Ball in June.
The 52-year old Kath & Kim and Goddess star will join noted past speakers Sir Ian McKellen, radio host Tom Ballard and journalist David Marr.
Szubanski came out publicly on Valentine’s Day last year, telling current affairs program The Project that she “absolutely identifies as gay”. Szubanski also spoke at the Mardigrasland after-party a month later, calling the support she had received “overwhelming”.
“The truth is, my coming out was a very public event. But all of us have to come out, all the time. And it is not easy. I just want to say how much love and admiration I have for all of you, for the courage that you have. And we are making the world a better place,” Szubanski said.
