Mardi Gras embraces female co-chair
Sydney’s Mardi Gras Festival will celebrate its 35th anniversary in 2013 and it seems that the festival’s theme of Embrace has become one with its committee.
It was announced on Wednesday that this year’s Mardi Gras team will be co-chaired by Peter Urmson and Siri Kommedahl, who held the position of deputy chair throughout the last year.
With the Mardi Gras team trying to increase the participation of women on all levels within the organisation, the board said it hopes Kommedahl’s new position will be seen as a step in the right direction.
“Siri has been a fantastic deputy chair,” Urmson said.
“I’m absolutely delighted to have her join me as co-chair in what’s shaping up to be a very big year for Mardi Gras”.
As well as welcoming Kommedahl into her new role, the team has also named 2012 Volunteer of the Year Meg Ebelt as production coordinator in 2013.
