Marriage experts to speak
Two of the world’s leading experts on marriage equality will speak at 5pm on Friday, March 2 at the Trades Hall Auditorium (4-10 Goulburn St, Haymarket).
Marriage Equality: The International Experience, hosted by the Whitlam Institute and Catalyst, will hear from Human Rights Watch’s LGBT advocacy director Boris Dittrich, who introduced the world’s first same-sex marriage law into the Dutch Parliament in 2000.
University of Massachusetts economics professor Lee Badgett, author of When Gay People Get Married: What Happens When Societies Legalize Same-Sex Marriage – winner of the American Psychological Society’s 2010 Distinguished Book Award – will also take part.
Badgett is also the director of the Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law.
Dittrich and Badgett will be introduced by veteran Australian LGBTI activist and Order of Australia recipient Rodney Croome.
Light refreshments will be served following the speakers and the event is scheduled to end by 6.30pm. Marriage Equality: The International Experience is a free event, but seats are limited so registration is essential.
