Portia’s got a lunchbox for you
Sydney’s much-loved grand dame of drag, Portia Turbo, is putting her lunchbox on the market in the name of charity.
The drag circuit favourite just happens to be the state’s leading Tupperware lady and, after years of successful selling, she is using her skills to raise money for the Luncheon Club.
On Wednesday 15 August Portia will host a giant Tupperware party at Slide in the hope of raising at least $3,000 for the HIV/AIDS charity.
“I’m New South Wales’s number one Tupperware lady and the Luncheon Club has been in trouble,” Portia said.
“So I decided it was time to hold a massive Tupperware fundraiser for the organisation – it’s a worthy cause.”
As well as having mountains of Tupperware to offer the queer community’s kitchen-conscious, the evening will feature an array of entertainment and a larder of delicious food.
“Ten percent of all the sales go to the Luncheon Club and all the drag queen show fees are also going to the charity,” Portia said.
“We will also be holding raffles and selling a new Sydney drag queen recipe book – we want to create a feeling of charity.
“Being a fat girl myself, I adore the fact that the Luncheon Club provides one really good lunch a week. With this seriously freezing cold winter, it’s essential that they’re keeping their belly warm.”
Tickets for the Tupperware party are $60 which includes a two-course meal. Bookings: www.slide.com.au or email [email protected].
