Theatre legend joins Priscilla
The darling of Australian theatre, Jacki Weaver, has joined the cast of Priscilla.
Weaver is taking on the role of Shirley, the mulleted, battle-axe pub owner from Broken Hill, until the production finishes its Sydney season on 2 September and heads to Melbourne.
As well as the role of Shirley, Weaver will form part of the ensemble cast, appearing as a glittery cowgirl, casino gambler and koala.
Weaver’s career spans more than 40 years of television, film and theatre. Her plaudits include two AFI awards (for the films Caddie and Stork), a Logie (Do I Have To Kill My Child), a Glugs Best Actress Award (The Last Of The Red Hot Lovers), a Mo Award (Old Masters), and two Variety Club Best Actress Awards (Shadowlands and They’re Playing Our Song for which she was also awarded a gold record). In 2006 Weaver received APACA’s Touring Legend Award.
Since its world premiere in Sydney on 7 October 2006, Priscilla has gone from strength to strength, selling more than 340,000 tickets to date, and taking in excess of $27M at the box office. You can still book tickets for Melbourne or Sydney at www.priscillathemusical.com.
Support the Star Observer… while you still can
LGBTQIA+ media is under threat. Queer content is censored by tech conglomerates who amplify bigotry and push out AI slop — so we receive less financial support than ever.
When our community is muzzled and intolerance intensifies, we need queer media more than ever. Your donation means we can continue paying queer journalists to write queer news.
Don’t rely on the straight lies of big tech – support Star Observer instead and donate now.
