Party with heart

Transitory Life, a non-profit organisation dedicated to financially assisting the transgendered community, is hosting another fundraising party on May 13.

Transitory II at Noise Bar in Brunswick will feature a night of house and techno DJs including DJ John Pants from The Blow Waves and DJ Beaker, who has been packing the floors of Abode and Libation.

There will also be a show full of gender-bending performers, such as renowned drag artist Philmah Bocks, acrobat Aidyn Heyes and drag king star, Bust Herr.

All profits from the evening will go directly towards funding trans people for cost of living and medical expenses associated with transitioning.

The average cost of transitioning is $25,000 and the stress caused by a lack of funds can often cause depression and, in extreme cases, suicide within the community, where the depression rate is more than 50 percent, according to the 2007 TranZnation Report and 2005’s Private Lives project.

info: Transitory II is on Friday, May 13, 8.30pm-late at Noise Bar, 291 Albert St, Brunswick. Tickets are $10 on the door. For more information, visit transitorylife.com.au
