Putting the sexy back into soul
Soul-inspired duo Lenny and Jules are planning on putting some groove back into Oxford St with their rock steady tunes and bootylicious moves.
After years of touring and gigging around the world it seemed only natural the twosome headed home to Sydney to combine their talents.
British-born band member Leonard Mattis made the move to Sydney eight years ago to study at the Conservatorium of Music and was tutored by famed vocal coach Steven Ostrow. Since finishing the course he has earned himself a reputation as one of Sydney’s leading male vocalists.
His partner in tune, Jules Tyler, has toured the country with a string of prominent industry professionals and landed roles in many feature films and television shows. With both talents combined, it’s going to be an unstoppable music force.
We have pretty much been inseparable since the day we meet in 1998, Mattis told Sydney Star Observer.
Jules and I had always spoken of starting a band so it was only a matter of time before we formed. Singing and performing has always been a passion for both of us. This certainly feels like second nature.
The group will be showcasing their talent under the intimate setting of Slide on Thursday 31 July. Mattis said that the night will be a slick production giving people what they want.
Quality live music on the gay scene is pretty much nonexistent. Now that licensing laws have changed it would be great to see a lot more live music on the strip, he said.
The audience can expect an emotive, energetic night of quality soul music. We are currently playing with some of the hottest session musos in Sydney.
We range from scorching ballads to screaming falsetto and we love the big band sounds from the Motown and Stax years. Feel-good music with funk rhythms, great melodies and a killer chorus -“ how could you not love it?
