Bingham Cup bars revealed

THE arrival of the Bingham Cup is just a few months away and organisers plan to turn Sydney’s Oxford St precinct into a hub of activity and parties over the week-long gay rugby world cup tournament.

Three well-known bars will help build the excitement around the event by decking their walls and windows with Bingham Cup signage. These official “Bingham Bars” will be Kinselas, The Beresford Hotel and Stonewall Hotel.

The fun starts on August 24 with a meet and greet at The Beresford to welcome the early arrivals from interstate and overseas, before continuing each night.

“Our goal is to create a mini-Mardi Gras in August,” Bingham Cup Sydney events manager Jonny Bastin told the Star Observer.

“We’re very excited to have these three venues as our official Bingham Bars; they will offer our visitors and locals an array of great entertainment creating a hub of activity each night.

“Each bar is well established and very popular with the community, offering a diverse entertainment line-up that is unique to each and complements each other. We expect people to bar hop between each venue to make the most of what’s going on.”

As well as individual events each night, all three bars will be a part of the Bingham Cup Rugby Bar Tour, to be hosted by Maxi Shield on August 27, plus Super Saturday, a huge charity fundraiser on August 30.

Glenn Hansen from Stonewall said: “Stonewall Hotel is extremely excited to be a Bingham Bar through the Bingham Cup. This is a great event and we are going to give them a wonderful place to have fun, party and see the amazing talent Sydney has to offer.”
