Mitcham pulls out of world champs
Australian gold medalist, Matthew Mitcham, has had to withdraw from this year’s diving world championships due to injury.
The out and proud 23-year-old tore an an abdominal muscle during the Canada Cup in Montreal earlier in the year, despite picking up a gold medal in the 10m platform competition.
Mitcham is reported to be in an intense six-week intense rehabilitation and decided to pull out of the world championships in Shanghai so he could focus on being well enough to compete in the London Olympic Games in 2012.
The diver also suffer two stress fractures after competition in the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
