Mixed success for Sydney Rangers

The Sydney Rangers Football Club completed round six of play this past weekend, with the Rangers A division starting strongly against a well organised side, scoring 2-1 by half time. This early lead was soon lost, though, as right from the start of the second half, the opposition were more confident and started making more trouble. It looked like the game was over but Rangers A kept fighting back. Ultimately, it was too little too late and the Rangers A were defeated, 3-4, after a few unlucky moments cost them the game.

In a more successful game, the Rangers B played against Belmore Hercules at Birchgrove Oval and took control from the start: the defence was never troubled and held their nerve, securing a 3-0 half-time lead.

Belmore picked up the intensity in the second half and made some useful breaks but again the defence held solid and except for an unlucky penalty they never really looked like scoring.

With the penalty making the score 3-1 Rangers B complacency melted and were unlucky not to score more goals with their many attacking runs.

Another good win to Rangers B should see them move up to 3rd on the ladder.

This week, the Rangers A and B divisions both compete against Strathfield, and there’s the Sunday Social at the Reservoir Playing Fields, Centennial Park at 3pm.
