Tens of thousands expected for Newtown Festival

Home to one of Sydney’s biggest LGBTI populations and known for its passions for creativity and art as well as diversity and acceptance, the city’s inner-west will again burst into an expression of colour and atmosphere this weekend for the annual Newtown Festival.

Marking its 35th anniversary this year, the festival is expected to draw about 80,000 people to Camperdown Memorial Park throughout Sunday, November 10 with art, music, workshops and the best of Newtown culture combining to create a unique and quirky mix of family-friendly fun all day.

The likes of Dappled Cities, Snowdroppers and TUKA with The Basement Big Band will provide entertainment from three separate stages while shoppers will be able to browse close to 300 stalls selling everything from vintage fashion, local art and fair trade products.

The Writers Tent will be back for another year offering festival-goers a chance to be up and close to a number of prominent authors while the annual Newtown Festival Dog Show promises to provide fantastic entertainment for all and some fame for the pooches entered.

Among the stallholders, Team Sydney will help provide a LGBTI flavour to the event, with the LGBTI sports promotion group eager to spread the word of the city’s many successful LGBTI-inclusive sporting groups.

All funds raised on the day will be returned to the festival’s organisers, the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre, to help provide support services to the local community.
