Feeling good, feeling sexy

Feeling good, feeling sexy

carlos SSI’m going to share something with you. Some days when I wake up and look at my reflection in the mirror, I can actually understand my partner when he says I’m sexy.

Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t happen every single day, but occasionally it does. I don’t know if it has to do with the fact that I had a better sleep, if it is related to a full moon or the planets are aligned, but the thing is that I immediately know it is going to be a great day. I will get going with my day with a ridiculous, big grin on my face and will notice that at least one person will give me a smile or even ask: “Is there anything different with you? Beard? Haircut?”

Our ability to feel confident and good about ourselves influences how we perceive other people and that affects the way we interact. This can also alter how others read our behaviour.

Enjoying sex is not always about physical experiences and a lot of the satisfaction we get when engaging in sex is linked to what is happening in the brain whilst having sex. We are constantly bombarded with images of what we are supposed to look like to be desirable, but what we tend to forget is that the ‘desirability market’ is quite big. Every body type has its share of the pie and a lot of people would prefer to act on ‘the spark’, rather than merely going after a body type because it’s deemed attractive by popular media.

The guys from BearHART (the VicBears Health Promotion Team) bring to you BearHART: Body, an initiative that looks at feeling better about yourself. The Victorian AIDS Council/Gay Men’s Health Centre is actively supporting and promoting this great initiative.

ape_mirrorHow we feel about our bodies can play a critical role in how attractive we feel, and our level of self worth as gay men. Taking small steps to improve your body image could mean a big step in terms of your confidence and your sense of belonging to the bear and broader communities.

BearHART: Body is an educational but fun evening that will show you some practical tips and tricks on improving the way you feel about your body in a safe, non judgemental environment, with friendly people.

BearHART: Body will take place at the Collingwood Library in Abbotsford between 7.30 and 9.30pm on Thursday, 11th April. The event is free to current VicBears members and $5 for non members. Light supper will be served at the end of the night. Come along and help debunk some of the many myths that are stopping you from feeling good about yourself.

Numbers are strictly limited so please visit VicBears, or RSVP by email to [email protected]
