Charging towards Manchester

The Melbourne Chargers -our city’s very own gay rugby team – are fundraising to help take the team to the 2012 Bingham Cup in Manchester, and will be hosting their second Beer Bust this Saturday, August 20 at Sircuit.

You don’t need to pack a scrum or tackle a prop, just drop some coin on the bar for some of the cheapest beer you’ll see.

The Bingham Cup is the gay equivalent of the Rugby World Cup, attracting more than 800 players from all over the planet.

There is a proud history of Australian involvement in the Bingham Cup – the Sydney Convicts have won the Bingham Cup twice, in New York in 2006 and Dublin in 2008; The Bingham Plate in 2006 and, combining with the Melbourne Chargers, the Bingham Bowl in Minneapolis last year.

2012 will hopefully be the first year Melbourne is represented at the Bingham Cup by a full 25-player squad, and the first year Australian rugby is represented by a club other than the Sydney Convicts/

That means it will be a historic event both for the team and for the gay rugby union movement in Australasia.

Entry to the Beer Bust is only $8, with all proceeds going to the Chargers for the trip. Once inside it’ll be $3 schooners from 5-7pm and then $4 schooners from 7-9.30pm.

At 9.30pm all beer bust specials finish and Sircuit ramps up for a massive Saturday night.

Guys and girls are all welcome at this mixed event, but please note after 9.30pm Sircuit is men-only. Girls if you like the place, Sircuit welcomes women every Thursday and Sunday night.

Doors Open at 5pm, and if that’s not enough, The Sparklettes will be providing some fun entertainment for you. What a great way to kick off your Saturday night, while supporting Melbourne’s own gay rugby team.
