Fruity fun at the fair

To welcome spring and that wonderful reinvigorated feeling that inspires, get down to a spring country fair day Fruitopia at the Lismore Showgrounds on Sunday, August 29.

Fruitopia is raising funds for Tropical Fruits’ to purchase an abode of their own. Everyone, young and old, queer or otherwise are welcome and I am assured everyone will find fun things to do.

Can you bake? Do you have an irresistible sweet recipe? Get yourself to Fruitopia and enter ACON’s bake off Have Your

Cake and Eat It Too. This event is a fundraiser and will celebrate ACON’s 25th and ACON Northern Rivers 21st birthdays. Only $2 to enter, it’s an inexpensive way to impress.

Cakes need to be in by 10am. Judging will happen at 10.30am, with winners announced at 11.15am. For $4 anyone can be a judge for people’s choice. This involves a plate of yummy delicacies from a category (creative cupcakes; chocoholics anonymous; decorated; anything goes; and one for the under 12’s – kids in the kitchen) a scorecard and pen. We will be auctioning the winner’s fare and selling the others by the slice. With a Chai tent nearby it is perfect for morning tea.

Maybe a dog show is more to your liking. Bring your Spot, Rover, or Mooch to register before 9.30am. There are prizes for lookalikes, best dressed and more.

Other activities include traditional fair games such as three legged, egg‘n’spoon and sack races – remember them? There will be plenty of entertainment for you to enjoy throughout the day including ‘So you think you can drag?’ or the performances like shiny shiny, DJ’s all day and loads more.
