It’s show time, Sydney!

It’s show time, Sydney!

I know I say it every month but I am such a glutton for punishment! I work full time, run two social nights, coordinate three venues and produce a radio show while pursuing a straight friend and trying to snag a gay husband.

My newest venture has begun! It’s DragTime! Kings and queens return to Leichhardt with the opening of a fabulous new night at Norton’s on Norton’s Hotel, on the second Saturday of the month.

It’s a safe place to hang out on Saturday night from 7pm with the added bonus of multiple drag shows, amazing food by a MasterChef contestant (Jay Huxley), great music and free entry. It’s hosted by the fabulous Prada Clutch with her sidekick, moi!

After a very successful opening night at Norton’s, I rolled out of bed, still in the same face and opened the door to find The First Daughter wearing a garbage bin. So feeling and looking a bit trashy, we headed off to Fair Day.

The fabulousity which is Fair Day started as soon as we exited the car and were approached by a young man who offered us a “service” in the laneway. He made me feel like a dirty old man so we ran off to Victoria Park to join the festivities. I went pretty in pink with hair by Prada and dress by Lola. I felt and looked fabulous.

Then, as the rain was approaching, I decided to take shelter in my car with the boy from the laneway. LOL!

When Fair Day is over, you know the Parade is soon to follow. After walking and working the Parade for 15 years, will this year be any different? As you get older, it seems the route gets longer.

Despite offers to be part of a float, I may only do the Party this year. Only time will tell.

I’d like to see more floats and social groups from the West involved. It seems everyone splits into other groups at Mardi Gras time when it should be a time that we unite.

Speaking of splitting up, it’s time for the first Heaven of the year, although this year will most likely see the end of the group as we know it. The original idea was to set up nights for us
Western drags to have a stage and for us and our friends to hang out.

As most of you are aware, Your Westy Divas is no more, dynamics have changed, too many clashing personalities.

So, we kick off 2012 with outsourced entertainment, we welcome Shimtastic to the Heaven stage with Doctor, Doctor!. Will this bring a fresh vibe or kill it?

Heaven returns to Northmead Bowling Club on February 25. www.heavensocialdance.com

It’s going to be a huge year for Queer Out West 89.3FM. This year we celebrate 10 years of broadcasting to the LGBTIQ community and we are moving to a new studio in March. How will I cope with a new hi-tech studio and new presenters?

Also this year we hope to welcome a real girl to the panel and pick up some fabulous sponsors for our program, so if you’re a interested drop us a line or check out our new website, www.queeroutwest.com

EYESPY: I’m starting to notice I have friends I didn’t know I had before, but they’re there for all the wrong reasons. Trying to do the right thing by trying to include everybody is the problem. Sometimes the people you think are your friends, aren’t, and the most unobvious people become great friends. I suppose this is life.

Until next time, Gorgeous, BB.

Have a happy and safe Mardi Gras!
