Mardi Gras comes West … so should you!

Mardi Gras comes West … so should you!

My what a happy new year! I lost weight, I’ve gained a roommate with sizeable assets, I’ve learned left from right and I’ve been nominated for a DIVA -¦ What more could a girl ask for? For it all to be true!

Honestly though, 2009 is shaping up to be a fabulous year.

Western Sydney is bursting with energy, and the next few months will see some great events unfold.

Heaven finally launches its new night Fresh Air on Saturday February 7 at Northmead Bowling Club. Can I tell you, the blood sweat and tears it has taken! Gracie Lou and I have nearly killed each other on occasion -“ that skinny little bitch sure knows how to throw some venom!

Rehearsals have come thick and fast and I can finally (I think) remember left from right. Our outfits will be fabulous, but no doubt they will still be on the Pfaff 10 minutes before the show. I anticipate it will be a wonderfully entertaining night. I just pray I don’t fall off the stage. Come along and enjoy -“ it will be a spectacle.

On the second Friday of every month, all of the outer western Sydney, queers can now enjoy Jupiter’s Nightclub with the talents of Miss Willy and other drag talents.

Wednesday and Thursday nights will continue to be the home of Portia Turbo’s trivia nights. They are a camp night out and well worth a visit. Listen carefully as she serves it up to the mostly straight crowed with great enthusiasm!

Also coming up on Friday February 20 is the Out West Dance Party #4 at Sweeny’s Function Centre in Ingleburn. The entertainment is yet to be confirmed, but no doubt it will be another event jam-packed full of lavish lesbians and gorgeous gays.

The Riverside Theatre will be teaming with homosexuals throughout the Mardi Gras season this year, as the venue takes on hosting a number of queer friendly events. The festival out west will include Court Out! drag workshop hosted by Courtney Act and Trevor Ashley revealing all their drag secrets, as well as Gentlemen Prefer Blokes starring the same duo of Courtney and Trevor.

Let’s not forget -˜Six Quick Chicks’ and -˜Angels in America’ two more fabulous stage productions.

Queerscreen will also return to the Riverside Theatre on February 27 and 28 and March 1. . I can’t wait. I just pray this year won’t be another subtitled movie. You can download a Queerscreen Mardi Gras Film Festival guide from the front page of the SSO website.

Drag Gossip:

Which western Sydney drag queen doesn’t know one end of a drill to the other, and only discovered it was in reverse when it took her over 15 minutes to try and get a screw in!

Which fallen diva has recently asked for all pictures to be removed from people’s websites? Oh please. And I thought I was over dramatic.
