City of Sydney: New $25 million creative hub in Greenland

City of Sydney: New $25 million creative hub in Greenland

A new $25 million state-of-the-art creative hub will be built in the centre of our city to provide rehearsal spaces for music and dance, multimedia production rooms, space for visual artists and a live/work apartment to be made available for a creative fellowship.

Thanks to a planning agreement negotiated by the City of Sydney with Greenland Australia, the creative hub will be leased to the City for $1 a year for 99 years.

The hub will span 2,000 square metres over five storeys and will be located in Sydney’s tallest residential tower at the former Sydney Water site on Bathurst Street.

The $440 million, 67-storey development will feature 490 residential apartments, ground-floor retail space, and a 173-room hotel fronting Pitt Street. It is expected to be completed in late 2017.

The creative industries are vital to the cultural and creative life of Sydney. A recent study showed 1,900 creative businesses employ more than 35,000 people across the City’s local area.

Following the launch of our new cultural policy, Creative Sydney, I am proud to see such early progress being made.
