Duo bridging the generation gap

Duo bridging the generation gap

For cabaret stalwart and Sydney Star Observer columnist Phil Scott and fresh-faced singer/actor Vincent Hooper, the gay generation gap is grist to their comedy mill.

In the pair’s new show, The Twink and the Showgirl, Hooper (the Twink) and Scott (the Showgirl) explore how dramatically gay life has changed in just one generation.

The show was a massive hit as part of last month’s Midsumma Festival in Melbourne, and has found its way to Mardi Gras stages at Will and Toby’s and Parramatta’s Riverside Theatre.

We’re using the fact that I’m twice as old as [Vincent] to examine the differences between what gay life was like a couple of decades ago and what it’s like now -” what’s different and what’s the same, Scott told Sydney Star Observer.

We’ve picked music from the last few decades -“ a lot of show tunes, because I’m a show queen, apparently.

Some of the musical choices may confound expectations, with Hooper busting out the Streisand classics while Scott dabbles in more contemporary material from the likes of Altar Boyz.

The duo will also perform a few comic sketches, including one hilarious skit that looks at how fronting up to the doctor with an STD has changed over the years.
