BRITISH singer Will Young has released a single this week that aims to empower the trans* community with its message.

The song, Brave Man, features real-life trans man Finn who sets his clothes down at a pub he walks naked through the city with only two Polaroid pictures covering his privates.

Young explained the decision to feature a naked trans male in his clip on his Facebook page.

“I had been following a very different idea for the video to Brave Man,” he wrote.

“When this didn’t come to fruition I went back to the drawing board and wondered to myself what it is to be a ‘brave man’. It came to me.

“It seems extremely brave to be a man in a woman’s body and then decide to do something about this.

“As I thought more about it, I realised that there is often coverage of what it is to be a woman in a man’s body, but never to my knowledge the documenting of the opposite (almost a perverted kind of patriarchy).”

Will Young himself is openly-gay, and is the inaugural winner of Pop Idol, the UK’s equivalent to Australian Idol. He has released six studio albums since he was thrust into the spotlight in 2002, with four of them reach number one on the official UK music charts.
