Reality show tracks Priscilla’s steps

Channel Ten’s new reality TV show I Will Survive: Priscilla is searching for Australia’s next male triple threat to compete for the chance to perform on Broadway.

Contestants who make it through the auditions will be whisked away for a ‘road trip of a lifetime’ from Sydney to Alice Springs on the Priscilla bus.

The final four contestants will be flown to New York where they will compete to play the lead role of Tick, famously played by Hugo Weaving in the film Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

The show will retrace the steps of the blockbuster film as contestants perform at each Australian outback location to stay in the show.

Auditions start on Thursday, April 19 in Brisbane and continue through most capital cities until April 29 for male singer-actor-dancers aged 21 and over.

Judges and mentors are yet to be announced and the show is expected to be aired later this year.

Network Ten announced the show yesterday along with three other new programs including Everybody Dance Now and Come Date With Me.

Fremantle Media Australia will create the show.

“Although it ends up on Broadway, I Will Survive is so much more than a musical theatre casting show. The winner will have impressed our big-name judges in every performance skill — singing, dancing and acting,” Fremantle Media Australia director of television Tim Clucas said.

“They will be the ultimate performer. The entertainment world will be theirs for the taking whether it be television, live theatre or Hollywood.”
