Gaga’s monster sales drop
The end of Lady Gaga’s 99 cent deal with online retailer Amazon has resulted in Born This Way suffering a massive 85% sales drop in the USA.
A large decline in second week sales is relatively common for most artists, but Mother Monster has recorded one of the biggest falls in chart history – fuelling the widely held opinion that her numbers were unfairly bolstered by the Amazon deal.
Last week Born This Way sold 1.041 million copies. This week, it managed just 170,000.
The drop is put into perspective when compared to America’s last two million sellers: Taylor Swift’s Speak Now suffered a 69% sales drop in its second week, while Lil’ Wayne’s Tha Carter III fell 66%.
It’s not all bad news for Lady Gaga. Born This Way topped the charts in 20 countries and Edge Of Glory is shaping up to be another big hit.
