Mitcham joins awards line-up

Gold medal-winning Olympian diver Matthew Mitcham and former High Court judge Michael Kirby will be special guests at the Pride in Diversity Business Luncheon and Awards at the Sydney Hilton’s Glass Restaurant on May 17.

Mitcham, who is Telstra’s Sporting Ambassador, will speak about the importance of IDAHO, which falls on the same day and will be marked by the awards. Telstra is a Pride in Diversity foundation member.

Kirby, who is Pride in Diversity’s patron, will lead a panel discussion on the importance of GLBT inclusion in the workplace.

Participating in the discussion will be senior executives from IBM, KPMG, Telstra, the Australian Federal Police, and the co-CEO and managing director of Goldman Sachs & Partners Australia, Stephen Fitzgerald.

Pride in Diversity program director Dawn Hough said audience members could expect a lively discussion.

“If you know what Michael is like, he will be asking quite direct questions and facilitating discussions with the executives around the topic,” Hough said.

As well as naming the top 10 employers for GLBT inclusion in the workplace for 2011, this year’s awards will single out the nation’s top public sector employer, private sector employer and best GLBT employee network group.

With two weeks left before the lunch, Hough was expecting more than 150 people to attend. All but 10 lower visibility seats have been sold.

The lower visibility seats are being offered at $120 — a discount of $25 — and include a three-course meal and drinks.

Lawyers Weekly editor Angela Priestley will be the master of ceremonies for the event.
