Gay Dads join NDA

Gay Dads NSW president Anthony Brien will join others at the National Day of Action this Saturday to ask, if his children can have one stepfather, why can’t they have two?

It’s a way of saying, why can’t I give my kids a step dad like my ex-wife did?, Brien told Sydney Star Observer.

My kids are still under 18, so if something happened to me then my partner (Warren Prior) has no rights as far as my kids go, as far as their health or seeing them in hospital or anything like that because as far as the law goes, they might now recognise him as my defacto but they don’t recognise the responsibilities for him as a parent.

As I know from the first time when I got married, it’s a public statement of commitment to your partner, and to have that as something that is legally recognised is important because this man and I intend to stick together for the rest of our lives, so why can’t that be recognised in law?

info: The National Day of Action will take place this Saturday, August 1, starting at Town Hall from noon before moving to Darling Harbour.

  1. They do have 2 step-fathers. Step-parents have no parental responsibility, and your partner is in no different position than their mother’s new partner.
