Tradies unite to march

Organisers of the gay tradies float are seeking expressions of interest from tradies, their friends, admirers and those who just want to dress up as one for the night to enter this year’s
Mardi Gras Parade on March 3.

There are still 80 spots available and no trade qualifications are required.

The float will feature giant cardboard and foam cut-out power tools to play with, green-and-yellow fluoro uniforms and plenty of industrial-sized fans.

There will also be “some very light choreography” to 2007 Eurovision UK finalist Schooch’s song Flying the Flag.

“Almost everyone from last year’s float is coming back to join us again and people can expect to have an awesome, fun night mingling with tradies and others,” float organiser Geoff Hitchon said.

There will be a practice run on Sunday, February 26 in Erskineville and a contribution of $80 will be required to help cover the cost of the float, uniforms and props.

  1. Well, Mardi Gras’ community forums certainly seemed to have paid off. Who would have thought there could be such enthusiasm for the organization just two years ago? Though, personally speaking, it has about as much appeal to me as a revitalised Madonna!
