Christian pastor: ‘masturbation is form of homosexuality’

An anti-gay Christian pastor has made headlines in the US after linking masturbation with homosexuality.

Pastor Mark Driscoll, a right wing activist who’s also recently stated that there wasn’t any proof that LBGTI people exist, says that men need to stop masturbating because it’s a kind of homosexuality.

In a booklet titled Porn-Again Christian: A Frank Discussion on Pornography & Masturbation for God’s Men, Driscoll, who’s part of the Seattle-based Mars Hill Church, says this is because it is a sexual act that does not involve a woman.

“If a man were to masturbate while engaged in other forms of sexual intimacy with his wife then he would not be doing so in a homosexual way,” he writes.

“However, any man who does so without his wife in the room is bordering on homosexual activity, particularly if he’s watching himself in a mirror and being turned on by his own male body.”

In other sermons offered on his website, Driscoll says that Christians should judge gay people like Jesus.

“If you leave this church, you can go to another church and they will tell you if you are living together and not married, that’s okay. They’ll tell you if you’re gay, that’s okay. They’ll tell you if you’re married and you’re into porno and wife-swapping and open marriages, that’s okay. God is displeased with that conduct. …. Christians therefore must be judgmental like Jesus,” he said.

  1. Clearly Driscoll is evident as to what happens when a nation doesn’t have adequate psychiatric services and state funded health care. The man has a serious personality disorder.

  2. Thankyou all for making my Saturday morning!
But seriously, imagine being married to someone with that attitude, yuck!!

  3. I feel so sorry for that man’s wife….this guy doesn’t even understand that women masturbate too. I bet he’s never even heard of a clitoris….oh, the tragedy.

  4. Um, I’d like to see the bible in which it shows Jesus as judgmental, I just relooked through my copy and well, he must have gotten a different version. But note, he did not mention women masturbating….so he must like that in the porn he watches….or something. And perhaps while masturbating he pictured another man and realizing he was gay, freaked out. Thus he threw on some Mickey Mouse and tried to act straight..cuz Mickey Mouse wearing men screams I’m Straight…Just saying.

  5. His poor wife must get awful tired of having to go and stand by his side whenever he feels the need to masturbate in front of a mirror.

  6. Really ? Would love to know what his deal is :-~ We will be reading about his “coming out of the closet process shortly” …closet case…..yep !

  7. “However, any man who does so without his wife in the room is bordering on homosexual activity, particularly if he’s watching himself in a mirror and being turned on by his own male body.”

That statement definitely says HE got turned on by HIS own body when he HAS masturbated in front of a mirror.

  8. What Rev. Driscoll says in Porn Again is a little more nuanced that what this article implies. It’s still pretty bizzare… but he doesn’t say that all masturbation is gay. He says, be careful if you masturbate and feel attraction to your own body, or look in the mirror while you do it. He says all healthy sexual urges should be directed to a husband or a wife within heterosexual Christian marriage.

What I thought was the most bizzare of his claims was his suggestion that a good wife might make porn for her husband, and that God would approve of that. Creepy! :(

  9. I think it is fascinating how he has described men wanking while looking in the mirror – that must be the way how he does it.

  10. Does that mean all the times I was thinking about women whilst DIYing I was actually thinking about men? Positively freudian thought that. or could it be this simple-minded Pastor has stepped into an area he personally doesn’t understand. Although I do find it a wonderful irony that a man who is surely a first class wanker doesn’t understand the process.

  11. I was brought up a catholic & I was told Jesus was accepting & did not judge anyone,& He NEVER made any comments about homosexuality.

  12. You know I’d not really ever given much thought to masturbating in front of the the mirror. But Pastor Driscoll’s rather odd and elaborate idea was strangely compelling to me and I just couldn’t resist trying it – and I must tell you it was exactly like Pastor Driscoll described! When I saw my naked body, saw myself performing that lewd act, I fell quite hopelessly in love myself – perhaps Pastor Driscoll understands – in a way that I am ashamed to say was impure and lustful, and henceforth I have no desire for women at all, only for slim handsome men that look a bit like me. Oh no, Pastor Driscoll has put dreadful dreadful ideas in my head! And now I’m gay! Help!

  13. I love that he says there is no proof that LGBTI people actually exist, while there is so much overwhelming proof that God does…. :look

    Idiot.

  14. Normally, I’m straight, but I’m gonna make an exception here. I’m gonna jerk off over that photo of him, just so that he’s involved in gay sex.

  15. I’m confused. Jesus didn’t say anything about gays. But he sure said “judge not, least ye be judged” and “let he who is without sin cast the first stone”.

I really think that Mark Driscoll should stop spouting rubbish and actually read the bible that he claims to hold in such high regard.

P.S. I’m sure that jumper is a polyester cotton blend, isn’t that against the bible’s rules also? “Thou shalt not wear a garment of mixed material”

  16. He is kind of cute. Maybe he just needs something stuffed in his mouth so he can look cute but not sound stupid.

Seriously this is great for our cause. The more ridiculous and crazy their arguments the sooner homophobia will be a thing of the past.

Silly man – please keep talking up and spreading your crazy ideas.

  17. I’ve been freaking straight guys out for years telling them wanking is inherently gay – that aint the opposite sex you’re playing with!
“It’s what’s in your mind.” some of the insist. Oh, so sex is mental, not physical? Then you shouldn’t need your hands….
This has led to some interesting arguments.
As for this pastor, I might sue for plagiarism.

  18. It is actually good that preachers like this, say the things they do because most of the population dismiss such utter nonsense and the nutters that sprout it! The ‘church’ has a long history of wanting to control people from birth to death and fundamentalists are trying to maintain that tradition of control. Sorry Pastor, ‘wanking’ is my own business and no one elses!
