Calls for one games continue

The Board of GLISA Asia Pacific — the area’s network of sport, culture and human rights organisations — is calling for the community to add their voices in response to the announcement the Gay Games and World Outgames will merge.

The organisations affirmed in March this year that the one quadrennial event in 2018 is their joint goal and that this is an important step to ensure the legacy of global LGBT sports, culture and human rights events continues to grow and reflect the desire of the community.

GLISA Asia Pacific is asking supporters to post comments on its Facebook page in response to the campaign and the next steps they’ve chosen to pursue.

Both organisations have committed to supporting and participating in the upcoming scheduled events including the GayGames in Cologne and Outgames in Wellington, and a joint taskforce comprised of members from each organisation will be set up to continue the discussions required to carry out their goal.

GLISA Asia Pacific representative Peter Sagar told Sydney Star Observer earlier this year that it warmly welcomed the move.

“It’s great news for the community,” he said. “People do want one event where the whole world can gather and celebrate as one.”
