Mardi Gras hoax accused in court

A man has appeared before a Sydney court today on charges of making a hoax terrorist threat against Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

The ABC reports the man, a convert to radical Islam, is also facing charges of possessing child pornography.

Ibrahim Siddiq-Conlon has been accused of posting the threat on the Facebook page of commercial radio program the Kyle and Jackie O Show.

Police also allege Siddiq-Conlon viewed child pornography on his laptop computer from July last year to his arrest on the night of the Mardi Gras parade.

Siddiq-Conlon has been in the media spotlight in the past for his views that Australia should be ruled by sharia law.

He has been granted bail to re-appear in May.

Siddiq-Conlon told reporters outside court he had posted the hoax threat in the heat of the moment and did not mean to carry through with it.
