Paris Mayor in recovery
Paris mayor Bertrand Delanoe is recovering in the French countryside after spending nearly two weeks in hospital for injuries sustained in a stabbing attack at Paris’s City Hall.
The openly gay mayor sustained injuries to the intestines, stomach and the major blood vessel carrying blood from the lower body to the heart after being stabbed at the Paris Sleepless Night festival on 6 October.
Police have placed 39-year-old Azedine Berkane under formal investigation for the attack, with Berkane’s lawyers maintaining their client is mentally ill and unfit to stand trial.
Berkane last week reportedly told French police that he hated politicians and he hated homosexuals.
According to Gay.com, Delanoe is currently in convalescence in the French countryside and not expected to return to work for another week.
